Officially back as president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB), former Indian cricket captain Sourav Ganguly is reclaiming the uncontested position. On Monday, the leadership change occurred when Ganguly replaced his brother, Snehasish Ganguly, who had held the position for almost three years.

Having earlier led CAB from 2015 to 2019, India’s most successful captain Saurav Ganguly’s return seems to have been a consensus-driven choice, with no opposing nominations submitted before the election. Speaking following his reappointment, Ganguly stated a clear goal: to develop Bengal’s cricket ability. “There is a great deal of passion for cricket in India. Our duty is to guide that talent in the right direction,” he said.

Having been reappointed as the chairman of the ICC Men’s Cricket Committee, a position he has held since 2021, the former BCCI head (2019–2022) continues to be a prominent person in cricket administration. His comeback to CAB happens at a critical point for Indian cricket. At home, the game confronts rising expectations for infrastructure modification and talent development. Ganguly’s impact is still felt around the world, particularly as India gathers pace in events like the Asia Cup.

He expressed faith in the Super Four chances for the national team after India’s commanding victory over Pakistan. Changes at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are meanwhile anticipated; the annual general meeting is set for September 28. Former cricketer Mithun Manhas is running for president of the BCCI, and Raghuram Bhat is thought to be a candidate for the post of treasurer.  The unchallenged victory of Ganguly both shows widespread backing among Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) members and elevates expectations. Ahead with a new term, he has the burden of not only improving Bengal’s domestic cricket framework but also defining future paths for young talent in a quickly changing cricket scene.
