Having officially announced the whole schedule for the 2026 ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup, the International Cricket Council (ICC) awaits opening day drama as India is slated to face the United States.

With the grand final set for 6 February at Harare Sports Club, the tournament, hosted jointly by Namibia and Zimbabwe, runs from 15 January to 6 February 2026.
Over three weeks, sixteen teams will fight their way through group rounds, a Super Six phase, and then on to the knockout matches in 41 games. Together with Bangladesh, the United States, and New Zealand, India is in Group A.

That question is not outrageous. Although India has long ruled at the U19 level, the USA’s participation in the competition highlights how the game has evolved.
For American cricket, qualifying for the World Cup has been a milestone; catching India in the first game only raises the gravity of the occasion.
Five venues will host the U-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup, including Harare Sports Club, Takashinga, and Queens in Zimbabwe; plus Namibia Cricket Ground and HP Oval in Windhoek, a tour of Southern Africa’s cricketing heartland.
Tanzania’s first appearance on the world scene will also enhance this U19 World Cup edition’s narrative.
Once the teams negotiate the pool stage, they advance to the Super Six round, before the semi-finals and lastly to the final in Harare, hence following the well-known pattern of previous U19 competitions.
ICC Chair Jay Shah has voiced confidence in the tournament’s capacity to find future cricket legends. He said the U19 World Cup was a ‘cradle of greatness’ where future icons would rise under difficult circumstances.
For India, starting their campaign against the United States, a rising cricket powerhouse, sets the stage.
Should they emerge strongly, it would not only confirm their U19 legacy but also let the world know that they anticipate no simple matches, including those from non-conventional opponents.
