Heartbreakingly, 11 people perished in a stampede outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, therefore dampening the RCB’s first IPL triumph party. Additionally, 33 individuals were hurt. Following this catastrophe, the BCCI (Board of Control for Cricket in India) has decided to establish a three-member group charged with developing thorough policies intended to prevent similar occurrences in the future.
“In light of the incident that occurred during the victory celebrations in Bengaluru, the Apex Council has decided to constitute a committee to formulate comprehensive guidelines aimed at preventing such occurrences in the future,” an official statement from the BCCI read.
Devajit Saikia, Rajeev Shukla, and Prabhtej Bhatia will make up this committee; Saikia is appointed the chairperson. The committee is slated to develop the celebratory protocol rules during the following fifteen days. During the board’s Apex Council Meeting on Saturday, this decision was made.
Devajit Saikia stated in an earlier conversation with Cricbuzz that the BCCI would actively respond to the catastrophe rather than simply watch passively. Though RCB’s victory festivities were a private affair, Saikia stressed that, given the significance of cricket in India, the governing body of Indian cricket had a responsibility to react.
“BCCI will have to take some action eventually. We have no choice but to act. Though it was an RCB exclusive event, we at the BCCI are in charge of cricket in India and will strive to ensure against a repetition of such events,” Saikia remarked.
Moreover, the BCCI has created a system of relegation and promotion. Only one team will be promoted and one team relegated in each Senior Men’s tournament going forward. Replacing the former knockout system, the Super League stage will now characterize the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and Senior Women’s T20 Trophy.
Large events like the Vijay Hazare Trophy, Senior Women’s One Day Trophy, and Men’s U23 State A Trophy will include 4 Elite Groups and 1 Plate Group. Several age groups have started to put the reorganization of the Plate Group into effect.
