Punjab Kings (PBKS) all-rounder Glenn Maxwell will miss the rest of IPL 2025 due to a finger injury in his right hand. “Very unfortunate, a fractured finger,” said PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer at the toss before their match against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) Wednesday night. “To be honest, we have not decided about the replacements yet, but we are pretty strong as far as the team’s mindset and what we have in addition to our playing Eleven is concerned. We have got quite a few players who can win matches for you, so going forward, we will stick to that as much as possible.”
Marcus Stoinis also confirmed that Maxwell had undergone scans, and the findings “weren’t positive.” “Maxwell didn’t think it was too bad, but it ended up getting pretty bad,” Stoinis told the broadcaster before the game in Chennai. “He had scans and, yeah, the results weren’t great.” He said that he is sorry for him and he thinks that Maxwell probably would not be available for the tournament.
Maxwell was below par with the bat in the tournament, but did manage to grab four wickets with his off-spin. He has scored 48 runs in six innings, with single-digit scores in his last four matches. He was bought for INR 4.2 crore during the last mega auction.
Now, in this way, two obstacles stand in the way of PBKS. The first is “a serious injury” that Lockie Ferguson had earlier this month. This made him unavailable for the tournament. However, the replacement for Ferguson has not yet been announced by PBKS, but Ponting suggested this would be sorted out very soon.
PBKS currently occupies the second spot on the points table, the only team above them being Royal Challengers Bengaluru. With an uncharacteristic defeat at Chepauk, CSK currently stands out as the only team that has been knocked out of the playoff race.
