IPL 2025: Harbhajan Singh’s ‘Racist’ Remark On Jofra Archer Sparks Outrage

Harbajan racist remark sparks outrage

During the Sunday broadcast, controversy erupted around former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh, former Indian cricketer and now commentator for the 2025 Indian Premier League (IPL) season. While commentating on the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and the Rajasthan Royals (RR) match, Harbhajan made quite an unusual mention of a “kaali taxi” (black taxi) while referring to English bowler Jofra Archer. This was particularly disturbing for someone like Harbhajan, who had been a victim of racism during his career, and thus it set the social network on fire.

The incident happened during the eighteenth over in the first innings when Jofra Archer pitched the bat on Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen. It was after seeing yet another consecutive boundary that the said comment came from Harbhajan.

He was heard saying, “London me kaali taxi ka meter tez bhaagta hai, Aur yaha pe Archer sahab ka meter bhi tez bhaaga hai (in London, the meter of a black taxi runs fast, and here, Archer’s meter is also running high),” during his commentary on the SRH vs RR match.

Many fans took to social media to criticize Harbhajan and demand an apology. Unfortunately for them, Turbanator has remained mum without clarifying or expressing his remorse for the comments.

As far as the match goes, it was once again proven that Sunrisers are flying high, and they now hold the record for the second-best score in IPL, which stands at a whopping 286 runs. It has now surpassed the best, and most sublime performances were also seen from none other than Ishan Kishan and Travis Head. In pursuit of the record, the Royals managed to score only 242 runs.

The achievement of Archer with the ball was quite disappointing in this match, as he passed away 76 runs in his 4 overs without taking a wicket.
