The IPL 2025 season is on fully now, and as the tournament goes on, the competition for this prestigious Purple Cap among the players gets hotter. The Purple Cap is awarded to the player who will take the most wickets by the season’s end, making it among the most coveted individual awards in the Indian Premier League besides the Orange Cap.

The chase for the IPL 2025 Purple Cap will add a juicy aspect to the entire battle for the championship title with the continuance of the current season. Currently, Noor Ahmad of CSK leads the table of wicket-takers with nine wickets from three matches. Since the inception of the IPL in 2008, the Purple Cap has been held for the most considerable number of times by the best available talents in the whole cricket world.

Pakistan’s Sohail Tanvir held the distinction of being the first winner of this prestigious award as he took a record of 22 wickets in 11 matches while playing for the Jaipur franchise during the only title-winning season. In the past, the Purple Cap has been awarded to several ballers, who have done extremely well in their T20 careers, including brilliant legends like Lasith Malinga and Dwayne Bravo.

On both counts, two Dwayne Bravo and Harshal Patel would be in the elite club, with 32 scalps each in 2013 and 2021, respectively. While Harshal took his 32 scalps in 15 games for Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2021, Bravo did that in 18 matches with Chennai Super Kings back in 2013.

The only other bowler along with Bravo and Patel who has crossed the 30-wicket in one season is Kagiso Rabada with 30 wickets in 17 matches for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020. Also, Dwayne Bravo, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Harshal Patel have each won the Purple Cap twice.
