Just before the start of the new IPL season, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been dealt a massive blow. Australian pacer Nathan Ellis has been ruled out of the tournament with a hamstring injury.
The 31-year-old Australian pacer recently played for Tasmania in the Australia One-Day Cup final in Hobart. He picked 2/26 in five overs as his team lost ot New South Wales. We don’t have any idea how he picked up this injury. However, he was down with a hamstring niggle for the Big Bash League knockout game.
CSK has confirmed this news, and now they are looking for their options to replace Ellis from the Registered Available Player Pool (RAPP). This pool has over 1300 players to choose from. Ellis was supposed to be CSK’s death bowling option this year. Ahead of the player auction, they had let go of Matheesha Pathirana.
Apart from Ellis, his countryman, Jack Edwards, has also been ruled out for this year’s IPL due to an injury. He was set to play his maiden IPL this year for Sunrisers Hyderabad. SRH picked him up for INR 3 crore at the player auction for IPL 2026.
SRH confirmed this development. However, the exact nature of the injury is still unknown. Edwards injury is the second blow SRH has been dealt with. Their regular captain, Pat Cummins, is also not available for the first few matches. Ishan Kishan has been named captain in the absence of Pat Cummins.
According to some reports, Sam Curran, the player traded to Rajasthan Royals by CSK, is also set to be ruled out for this year’s IPL with a groin injury.
