Ruthless West Indies Crush Zimbabwe

West Indies crushed Zimbabwe by 107 runs in the fourth Super 8 match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. All thanks to Shimron Hetmyer and Gudakesh Motie.

West Indies didn’t have a great start to their innings as they lost two wickets inside the powerplay. Brandon King and Shai Hope were gone before the finish of 6 overs. However, that didn’t deter them from scoring quickly.

After Hope’s dismissal, Rovman Powell walked out to bat at number 4. He alongside Hetmyer, stitched a wonderful partnership to take West Indies into a commanding position. They raised 100 plus runs in a very short time. They put together 122 runs off just 51 balls before Greame Cremer dismissed Hetmyer to give Zimbabwe some hope. Hetmyer remained the highest scorer of the match with his amazing 85 off just 34 deliveries. He hit seven sixes and seven four in his innings.

Powell also got out just 9 balls later by a short delivery from Blessing Muzarabani. He walked back after scoring 59 runs off 35 balls that included 4 sixes and 4 fours.

After those two wickets, Sherfane Rutherford, Romario Shepard, and Jason Holder played blistering cameos to take the West Indies total to 254 runs in 20 overs.

It was an impossible task for Zimbabwe to begin with. Chasing a mammoth 255 runs, Zimbabwe faltered within 3 overs against a disciplined bowling lineup. West Indies took 3 wickets for just 20 runs inside 3 overs.

Only Brad Evans made a score of 43 off just 21 balls. The rest of the players couldn’t reach a personal score of 30 runs. Besides Evans, Diaon Myers (28), captain Sikandar Raza (27), Tadiwanashe Marumani (14), and Tony Munyonga (14) could manage to reach double figures.

The West Indies bowling lineup was ruthless, and in this game, it was headed by Gudakesh Motie. Motie took 4 wickets for just 28 runs. His fellow spinner Akeal Hosein, who bagged three, while Matthew Forde chipped in with two scalps.

Zimbabwe captain Sikandar Raza’s decision to field first backfired as West Indies took apart their bowling lineup.
