Since the completion of the 2024 T20 World Cup, only 11 batters from full members have 150-plus strike rates against both spin and pace in T20Is. The best thing to note here is that four are Indians.
This stat may not surprise anyone as India are the defending champions of the T20I World Cup. However, India has become an even more frightening team than ever before – all thanks to their batting prowess.
You should know that India has crossed 250-plus scores three times during this World Cup cycle. Zimbabwe has also done this feat, but they’ve made these runs against Seychelles, Gambia, and Botswana. When we look at the full member teams, we can only see three other 250-plus scores in this World Cup cycle.
This can correlate with the 150-plus strike rates for four Indian batters. But the question is who these batsmen are.
The first name is Abhishek Sharma, the second one is Shivam Dube, the third is Suryakumar Yadav, and the fourth one is Yashasvi Jaiswal.
We all know that Abhishesk Sharma is one of the most consistent batters in the Indian cricket who can demoralize any opposition with his strokes. Shivam Dube has found a rhythm in the T20I that most all-rounders dream of. Surya, however, has gone through the worst phase of his career, but he has returned to form in the New Zealand series at the right time. Jaiswal has been a superstar for India but he couldn’t secure a place in the team because there is no room at the top.
Samson also did well against pace and spin, but he is short of runs in the lead-up to the World Cup. He might lose his place in the starting XI to an in-form batter, Ishan Kishan. Kishan’s are so absurd that it doesn’t make sense. Even then, his place is not guaranteed in this team because he has not played enough matches.
On the bowling front, Kuldeep Yadav has the second-best average in this cycle. Only Rashid Khan is ahead of him. Varun Chakravarthy is a guy who can walk into pretty much any team in the world. Most teams in the world might have one or maybe two such players. However, India has at least four such players: Abhishek Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, and Varun. You can add Axar Patel in that too, but his form has dipped in recent times. You can also add Suryakumar to that list. These six names cover pretty much everything needed for a great T20 side.
With players like these to their side, India is making a mockery of T20Is in this World Cup cycle. They have 32-6 numbers in full-members vs full-members matches this World Cup cycle. We can say that this feat of the Indian team is parallel to the Australian team of 2007 in ODIs. India carries a different sort of aura than their peers in this T20I World Cup cycle that can be compared to the Australian teams of 2003 and 2007.
