Champions of the Indian Premier League (IPL), the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), will not be included in the first World Club Championship set to begin in 2026. Although an official declaration has not yet been made, it is generally thought that this competition heralds the return of the long-closed Champions League T20.
According to PTI, RCB, who recently won their first IPL trophy in 18 years, will not be at this event despite the support from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Furthermore, it is argued that Pakistan will also miss representation in the first World Club Championship.
Pakistan’s absence results from their cricket board’s failure to attend a recent meeting in London. Lahore Qalandars are presently the Pakistan Super League champions. Endorsing the International Cricket Council (ICC) and its chairman, Jay Shah, will help to speed the World Club Championship. CEOs of several notable T20 franchise leagues attended the conference, which was arranged with sponsorship from the English and Welsh Cricket Board (WCB).
The Pakistan Cricket Board was invited to send its PSL CEO to a meeting last month alongside the cricket connect event in London, but no one attended, according to a source. The discussions included several facets of the suggested World Clubs Championship, including its timing, format, and schedule. CEOs from leagues such as the Emirates League, Big Bash League, The Hundred, SA20, MLC, and the Caribbean Premier League were present, and Pakistan was also invited to participate, as confirmed by the source.
Furthermore, the study said that the World Club Championship is quickening to balance the Saudi Cricket League. It was discovered that private investors are ready to invest an initial $400 million into the Saudi league, but their effort to arrange their league alongside the annual Tennis Grand Slam competitions is facing challenges.
