Ahead of the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 season, the Gujarat Titans appointed Vijay Dahiya, a former India wicketkeeper-batter, as an assistant coach on Wednesday. With this, they further strengthened the franchise’s coaching setup.
Dahiya was a respected figure in Indian cricket. He played for India in 19 ODIs and two Tests. He also had a long and successful domestic career with Delhi before he transitioned into coaching. He then guided Delhi to the Ranji Trophy title in the 2007-08 season. Since then, he has been building his portfolio with successful stints with domestic and IPL teams.
In the IPL, he was with the Kolkata Knight Riders as an assistant coach and played a key role in their championship runs in 2012 and 2014. He also served as head talent scout for the Delhi Capitals in 2019. Later, he moved on to the Lucknow Super Giants as an assistant coach.
His appointment as assistant coach comes a few days after the recent addition of Mathew Hayden to the Gujarat Titans as batting coach. The Gujarat team management further bolstered the coaching setup ahead of the upcoming event.
Since their debut in 2022, the Gujarat Titans have been one of the most consistent teams in the IPL. They even won a title in their first season. Titans have reached the playoffs in three of the last four seasons.
With an enhanced coaching setup, the team management is looking to build on their strong performances in the previous seasons.
A few hours ago, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that it will be releasing the first half of the schedule for the upcoming IPL 2026. The first phase will be played from March 28 to April 12, 2026.
