Australian captain Pat Cummins said he is coming back just in time for the next Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 after missing the current ICC Champions Trophy due to an ankle injury.
He is taking this time to enjoy special moments at home with the family and rehabs. For him, this time away is a chance to heal completely before the IPL and the World Test Championship.
Australia indeed had some terrible injury issues in the lead-up tournament with their star players missing from the action. Cummins in his session with Cricket.com mentioned how he spent his time while he was not on the field. He also shared the things he is working on to make sure that his return is seamless.
Cummins shared, “It’s been a wonderful month, focusing solely on family without the stress of training or upcoming tours. Being fully present has been incredibly rewarding.”
He continued, “My aim is to start bowling in the next week or so, gradually build up, and be ready for the IPL.”
The initial concerns about the fitness of Australian player Cummins proved unfunded. He even made it to the preliminary squad of Australia’s Champions Trophy. However, he later got injured during the concluding days of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
The series was won by the Australians with a 3-1 series victory over India in January 2025, eventually ruled him out of the tournament.
Vice-captain Steven Smith has now taken over as captain for the Champions Trophy in his place.
It was indeed a disappointing moment to miss out on such an important tournament, however, the Australian captain did not lose hope. He put his faith in making a strong comeback in the Indian Premier League (IPL), where he is expected to play a huge role for his franchise, Sunrisers Hyderabad.
