Most of these scores came while batting first for teams. This tells us that the teams often score big when they are playing freely and not feeling any pressure.
Now, let’s see the highest score in IPL history.
The highest target in IPL was set by Sunrisers Hyderabad against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in 2024. SRH created history on April 15 2024 by scoring 287/3 in the first innings of the match. This was the IPL’s highest score by a team and surpassed the previous record of 277/3 set by SRH themselves in an earlier match in the 2024 season.
Many records were broken that day including most runs in a T20 match and second highest T20 score ever. It was a frenzy of sixes in Bengaluru as Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma punished RCB bowlers. Thus, the match gave +1 to the lowest score in Ipl history of the team.
The second-highest score in IPL history also belongs to SRH. Just a couple of weeks before the carnage against RCB, MI received the same treatment from SRH batters. On 27th March 2024, SRH recorded the highest IPL score ever (277/3) in an inning against a formidable Mumbai from the bowlers in an IPL match.
The contribution of Heinrich Klassen of 80 runs with 4 fours and 7 sixes was instrumental in their record-breaking performance. Mumbai also scored 246/5 and it was their highest team score in IPL history.
In the same IPL season, KKR raised stakes against Delhi Capitals in a thrilling clash. The team was the winner of IPL season 2012 and 2014. Opening the batting for KKR, Sunil Narine played one of the best innings of his life where he made 85 runs off just 39 balls.
His innings helped KKR make 272 runs for the loss of 7 wickets in that match. The mammoth score broke the confidence of Delhi and they folded for just 166 runs while chasing the target.
We again have SRH on this list at number four. They posted the fourth-highest score in IPL history against DC and scored 266/7. Once again, Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head were key contributors.
Abhishek played a blinder of 46 runs in just 12 balls. Travis Head also contributed 89 runs off just 32 balls. In that innings, they made the highest powerplay score in IPL as well.
This game was played way back in 2013 when Chris Gayle (godfather of ipl) was on top of his form. RCB made a mammoth total against Pune Warriors India. It is the IPL’s highest score for RCB.
Chris Gayle, one of the popular cricketers in the world, went berserk in that match and scored 175 runs in just 66 balls. It was a Gayle storm in Bengaluru and Pune bowlers could not do anything. Gayle scored the fastest hundred in IPL in that match and the record is still standing.
Now, let’s talk about the 6th IPL’s highest score. Punjab Kings, who are known for being an unsuccessful team of IPL, chased down an extraordinary 262-run target in last year’s IPL. In response to KKR’s 261 runs, the number 8th score in this list, Punjab started well with Prabhsimran Singh and Jonny Bairstow.
Singh made a 20-ball 54 runs, while Jonny scored 108 runs in just 48 balls. The rest of the job was finished by Shashank Singh with his 68 runs off just 28 balls. It was a hell of a chase by Punjab lads.
You must have read the IPL ka highest score at the top of the table by SRH. In response to that inning, RCB started positively with Virat Kohli(run machine in cricket) and Faf du Plessis taking charge. Virat, the king of Ipl, scored a solid 42 runs off just 20 balls while Faf scored 62 off just 28 balls.
It was Dinesh Karthik who took the game to a position where RCB was thinking about winning. He played once in a lifetime inning of 83 runs in just 35 balls. However, once he got out all the hopes of RCB fans shattered.
In the match against Punjab Kings, KKR set a mammoth target of 261 runs in their quota of 20 overs. Phil Salt and Sunil Narine led the charge and both made 70-plus runs for their teams.
Venkatesh Iyer, Andre Russell, and Shreyas Iyer also chipped in in scoring this mammoth target. However, Punjab chased down the target within 19 overs, thanks to a spectacular century from Jonny Bairstow.
The highest team score in IPL by Delhi Capitals came on 27th April 2024 when they were playing against Mumbai Indians. Delhi batted first and decided to hammer Mumbai bowlers all around the ground.
Jake Fraser McGurk was the top scorer in the match with 84 runs off just 27 balls. Shai Hope and Tristan Stubbs also contributed to the team total. In the chase, Mumbai fell short by just 10 runs.
A year before, Lucknow Super Giants also made 257 runs in the IPL. Batting first, Lucknow played really well as most of the batters scored 40-plus runs in their innings.
However, it was Kyle Myers (54 runs off just 24 balls), Marcus Stoinis (72 runs off just 40 balls), and Nicholas Pooran (45 runs off just 19 balls) who shared most of the workload. It was a team effort and they ended up with 257 runs in the end.
