Dhoni’s Legacy Grows: Sets New Run-Scoring Benchmark For CSK

MSD becomes highest run scorer for CSK in IPL

CSK legend, MS Dhoni finished with an impressive milestone for having overlapped all the previous records for the number of runs scored in the CSK history of IPL on a Friday in front of an elated crowd in MA Chidambaram Stadium. It was during IPL 2025 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) when he hit Krunal Pandya for back-to-back sixes in the final over.

CSK batting second was reduced to 80 runs for 6 wickets in the 13th over, and with only 80 runs on board, which was quite a precarious situation, Dhoni chose to come in to bat at number nine despite having batted at number seven for many years.

In a quick 16-ball cameo, Dhoni scored 30 not out, hammering two sixes and three fours in the process. The loss by CSK eventually came by 50 runs, but the fans went back home all smiles after getting a glimpse of the master. By this match, Dhoni has scored 4,699 runs for the CSK in 236 matches, eclipsing Suresh Raina’s old record of 4,687 runs.

Earlier, RCB’s captain Rajat Patidar made a fortunate fifty and was backed by a disciplined bowling effort that helped RCB clinch an important 50-run victory and end a 17-year winless streak at Chepauk. After giving CSK a target of 196/7, RCB quickly tightened their grip and rattled CSK until the latter slumped to 146-8.

It resulted in Chennai Super Kings’s first defeat to RBC in Chepauk since the tournament began in 2008, and also their heaviest defeat at home. RCB’s victory was signified by a wide grin from Virat Kohli, the only player from this RCB squad who played in that memorable 2008 win. Dhoni, on the other hand, was just typical of his class behind the sticks as he performed a lightning-fast stumping on RCB opener Phil Salt.
