RCB fans booked in IPL celebrations

Following the first-ever victory of the team in the iconic Indian Premier League (IPL) on the 3rd of June, 2025, a group of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) supporters in Pune found themselves under legal consequences. The charges against them are because of their passionate IPL celebrations after the team’s win.

Around 11:30 p.m. on Fergusson College Road, 30 to 40 people gathered near Good Luck Chowk and participated in activities like setting off fireworks, making a lot of noise, and causing traffic disturbances until about 12:30 a.m. June 4. Public inconvenience caused by this event led the Pune police to register a case against the celebrants.

Invoking numerous provisions of the Maharashtra Police Act, the police started the First Information Report (FIR) under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Samhita (BNS), which tackles defiance of public orders. To identify the people engaged and take appropriate measures, authorities are presently studying CCTV video from the neighbourhood.

Although the IPL celebrations celebrated the fans’ joy over RCB’s historic triumph, this incident shows how important it is to maintain public order during these events. Celebrating responsibly is critical, the police have emphasized, therefore, preserving public tranquillity and safety is not jeopardized.

Similar IPL celebrations all throughout the country, including in Bangalore, where the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fans assembled in great numbers to celebrate the team’s victory, remind one of this Pune incident. Officials, however, have cautioned against participating in actions with legal ramifications or public agitation.

This event acts as a moving reminder of the fine line between honoring athletic achievements and following public safety rules as the probe goes on. It also diverts attention towards maintaining civic sense and being safe and secure while being in a public place, and ensuring the safety of other people present there with them.
