Virat Kohli reaches 13000 runs in T20 format

Indian cricketing star Virat Kohli had yet another feather added to his cap. He scored 13,000 runs in T20 cricket during the IPL 2025 match between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Monday. This historic achievement took place when he crossed 17 runs in the first innings, thus becoming the first Indian to get to that milestone and only the fifth cricketer in the annals of history.

Also, Kohli has set himself apart as the second-fastest player to achieve the milestone, doing so in his 386th T20 innings, only behind former West Indies cricketer, Chris Gayle, who did it in a mere 381 innings. Last season, everybody saw Kohli going past the 12,000-run mark in T20s again when he became the second-fastest to do so, next to Gayle, who got there in 360 innings.

Recently, Kohli was a vital cog in India’s success in the 2025 Champions Trophy, which only helps elevate his profile, including winning the 2011 ODI World Cup, the 2013 Champions Trophy, and the 2024 T20 World Cup. He is also the first player to score 20,000 runs in a decade, earning him the title of ICC Male Cricketer of the Decade for 2011-2020.

10 ICC awards have come Kohli’s way over the years, becoming the most and any player ever to do so in international cricket. He has claimed the ODI Player of the Year award four times: once in 2012, 2017, 2018, and 2023.

Kohli declared his retirement from T20 internationals after clinching the 2024 T20 World Cup, where he was awarded Player of the Match in the final and became an unsullied part of India’s Cricket Legacy in the T20 World Cup. He won the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for the ICC Cricketer of the Year in both 2017 and 2018, further enhancing his incredible reputation.
