Suryakumar Dethrones Kohli in IPL 2025 Orange Cap Standings

There was a very exciting double-header IPL Sunday for the year 2025, which twisted the Orange Cap standings quite dramatically. Virat Kohli had climbed as high as No. 3 by the close of the afternoon match, but he found himself at No. 4 by the time they had settled down for the night, thanks to a new contender snatching the third spot. Kohli, having performed for RCB, finished third on the run-scorers’ list that night after his day’s performance, and he turned out to be the fifth player in a season to exceed 300 runs.

However, that day too, MI’s Suryakumar Yadav joined him in the achievement and even outscored him to grab the third place. Consistently coming up with runs, not in a big way, yet always hanging in there on the leaderboard. The afternoon’s target for him was 158, and he saw his team through to a comfortable seven-wicket win with an impressive 73 not out from 54 balls, bringing his season total to 322 runs.

The fourth of the halfway marks he scored this season, and he has an impressive average of 64.40, which is the best among players with over 150 runs but second only to Tim David’s phenomenal 142.00. His strike rate of 140.00 is, however, the worst in the top five scorers. Suryakumar, too, charmed with a fireworks 68 not out off just 30 balls, taking MI to a nine-wicket victory over CSK and increasing his total to 333 runs.

As the weekend draws to a close, he now sits right behind Nicholas Pooran of LSG (368 runs) and B Sai Sudharsan of GT (365 runs). KKR will play GT on Monday, though, and Sai Sudharsan only needs four runs to get the Orange Cap. Close to the shoulders of Suryakumar and Kohli, in the last measure, came GT’s Jos Buttler (315) and Yashasvi Jaiswal of RR (307). Once in the race, Mitchell Marsh of LSG has now slipped down to seventh with 299 runs.
