Rohit Sharma scored his third double-century for India against Sri Lanka in Mohali in December 2017. He reached the 200 runs milestone in 151 balls.

9. Rohit Sharma – 151 Balls

Before a double century against Sri Lanka, Rohit scored another one against the same country three years back. 

In 2014, Rohit played an innings of a lifetime against Sri Lanka. The fastest double century in ODI for Rohit came in November 2014 at Eden Gardens. Rohit reached the 200-run milestone in 151 balls and then he went on to score the highest individual score of all time in ODIs. 

One of the best openers in the world, Rohit Sharma, made 264 runs off just 173 balls in an innings that included 33 fours and nine sixes. India reached 404 for the loss of five wickets and eventually won the match by 153 runs. 

8. Fakhar Zaman -148 Balls

The next on the list of fastest ODI double century makers is Fakhar Zaman from Pakistan. The flamboyant opener from Pakistan is the only player from the country to achieve this milestone. 

His exploits came in a match against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo in July 2018 when Pakistan was touring Zimbabwe. He came to bat with his partner Imam-ul-Haq and both players scored a century; adding 304 runs for the first wicket. 

After the wicket of Imam-ul-Haq, Fakhar went on to score even more runs for the team and made a 148-ball double-century. Pakistan team posted 399 runs on the board and in response, Zimbabwe bundled out for just 155. 

7. Sachin Tendulkar – 147 Balls

The God of Cricket, Sachin Tendulkar, holds almost all the records a batsman can hope to achieve in their lifetime. He may not be the fastest double-century maker in the world, but he was the first to reach 200 individual scores in an ODI innings. 

Sachin played this beautiful knock against South Africa in Gwalior on February 24, 2010, where he scored 200 runs in just 147 balls. His innings included 25 fours and three sixes. 

One of the most popular cricketers in the world, Sachin showed the world that the 200-run mark in ODI can be broken. It inspired the next generation of cricketers to take the mantle forward. 

6. Shubman Gill – 145 Balls

The next batsman to reach the fastest ODI 200 is Shubman Gill, another player from India. Gill smashed a swashbuckling double century in just 145 balls against New Zealand in Hyderabad in January 2023. 

Eventually, he scored 208 off 149 balls and took his team to a formidable total of 349/8. His double century included nine sixes and 19 fours. He single-handedly carried the team India in that match, there wasn’t much support from other batters. New Zealand fought back with great knocks from Micheal Bracewell and Mitchell Santner but they fell short by 12 runs.

5. Virender Sehwag – 140 Balls

After Sachin Tendulkar, the second batter to reach the 200 individual run milestone in ODI cricket was Virender Sehwag. He scored his fastest century in ODI cricket a tad faster than Sachin. 

One of the best batsmen in world cricket scored his maiden ODI double-century against West Indies off just 140 balls in Indore in December 2011. At the end of this inning, he scored 219 runs from 149 balls. 

It was an evening to remember for him. At the end, India won the match comfortably by 153 runs. 

4. Chris Gayle – 138 Balls

The West Indian legend and a T20 specialist, Chris Gayle, scored his maiden ODI double century in the ICC World Cup 2015. He became the first batsman to score the fastest double century in the ODI World Cup. 

His excellent knock came against Zimbabwe in a group-stage match played at Canberra. His explosive knock of 215 came in just 147 balls having reached the 200 run mark in just 138 balls. 

West Indies scored 372 runs and Zimbabwe could only manage 289 runs. West Indies won by 73 runs, according to the DLS method. 

3. Pathum Nissanka – 136 Balls

The next player on the list of fastest double centuries in ODI cricket is a Sri Lankan power hitter, Pathum Nissanka. He opened the batting for Sri Lanka and hammered 200 runs off just 136 balls. 

His double century came in a match with Afghanistan when they were touring Sri Lanka. The match was played at Pallekele on February 09, 2024. He broke many records with his double century. He broke the record for most runs in boundaries (128) in an ODI innings for Sri Lanka. In his innings, Nissanka hit 20 fours and 8 sixes to reach that number. 

2. Glenn Maxwell – 128 balls

Glenn Maxwell is another player who scored his maiden double-century in a World Cup match. So, by definition, he has hit the fastest double century in the ODI World Cup. 

Glenn is a player who showed resilience with his knock of 201 runs. The odds were stacked against him as Australia was chasing a total of 292 runs. His team lost 7 wickets for just 91 runs, but he didn’t give up and showed fighting spirit to carry his team through. 

In the end, he scored the World Cup fastest double century and chased down the total to take his team home even when he was struggling with an injury. He smashed 21 fours and ten sixes in that valiant inning to take his team home. 

1. Ishan Kishan – 126 Balls

As of now, the record for the fastest double century in ODI cricket is scored by another Indian player, Ishan Kishan. The flamboyant left-hander opener hit a 126-ball double-century when playing against Bangladesh in a Game in Chattogram. 

Ishan and Virat Kohli stitched together a partnership of 290 runs for the second wicket. In the match, Virat also scored a century. Ishan made 210 runs in 131 balls to help his team reach 409/8 in their innings. Bangladesh’s chase faltered from the get-go and they couldn’t recover. Eventually, they lost the match by 227 runs. 

In that inning, Ishan hit 24 fours and 10 sixes to reach the milestone.
