Career Defining Phase

He experienced disappointment when he was not selected for the 2011 World Cup, which broke his heart. Motivated by this feedback, he started working hard to get a consistent run in the team.

The turning point arrived in 2013 when the team management, particularly MS Dhoni, provided him the opportunity to open the innings for India in One Day Internationals (ODIs) during the Champions Trophy tournament.

Rohit Sharma grabbed this opportunity with both hands and had a remarkable run as an opener, where he scored consecutive centuries against England and Australia. Those centuries played a pivotal role in India winning the Champions Trophy that year. Fans and cricket experts were delighted and impressed with Rohit Sharma’s performances.

Since his promotion to the opening position, there has been no looking back for him; he continued to excel and perform in white ball cricket (ODIs, and T20s). The ability to build long innings and exhibit exceptional strokeplay became his trademark.
